Data modeling is the analysis of data objects used in a business or other context and the identification of relationships between those data objects. A data model can be thought of as a diagram or flowchart that illustrates the relationships between data. Data models tailored for specific industries or business functions can provide a viable foundation or a faster start for big data programs or investments.
